The song was used in Happy Gilmore with Happy and Shooter McGavin playing a golf matchup in the Tour Championship to purchase the house Happy's grandma lived in. In the latter, the song can be heard from the Civic Arena's audio system whenever the Pittsburgh Penguins score a goal, much like what happened in real games at the time. "Rock and Roll Part 2" was used for Sudden Death, both in a trailer and the actual film. In 2014, Billboard reported that the song was slowly falling out of favour due to both the controversies, and teams electing to replace it with newer songs. The NFL allowed a cover version of the song by the Tube Tops 2000 to be played, but in 2012, the NFL instructed teams to "avoid" the song following negative reaction from British media to the New England Patriots' use of the song. After the second conviction was upheld in court, the NFL asked teams to stop playing the song. In 1999, Glitter was convicted of downloading child pornography in England, and in 2006 of child sexual abuse charges in Vietnam. At sporting events, fans often insert their own "Hey," or sometimes other chanted syllables. After the Rockies moved to New Jersey as the New Jersey Devils in 1982, the Denver Nuggets and Denver Broncos picked up the tradition and were the first NBA and NFL teams to play the song during games. When he went to work for the NHL's Colorado Rockies in 1976, he brought the song with him. It was played first in a sport setting in 1974 at games for the Kalamazoo Wings of the high-minor International Hockey League by Kevin O'Brien, the team's public relations and marketing director. It is often referred to as "The 'Hey' Song," as the only intelligible word in Part 2 is the exclamation of "Hey," punctuating the end of several instrumental phrases and repeated three times at the song's chorus. In North America, "Part 2" became popularly associated with sports, as a number of professional teams adopted the song for use during games, primarily to signify scores and victories, or to otherwise invigorate the crowd. In France, "Part 1" was the successful side, peaking at number one. The running time of the US mono 45, which is mixed different from the LP, is 3:10 whilst it is 2:58 on the US LP. In the US, the instrumental version (Part 2) attracted most of the attention it hit No. In the UK, "Rock and Roll" was one of over 25 hit singles for Glitter. Since Glitter's convictions for child sex offences, the song's continued use has been controversial. It was also in North America that the "Part 2" became popularly associated with sports, as a number of professional teams began to play the song during games to invigorate the audience. "Rock and Roll" is Glitter's only top 10 hit in the U.S. In concert, Glitter merged both into one performance. Both parts were popular in Britain, and the single went to No. Co-written by Glitter and Mike Leander, the song is in two parts: Part 1 is a vocal track reflecting on the history of the genre, and Part 2 is a mostly instrumental piece. " Rock and Roll" is the debut single by English glam rock singer Gary Glitter that was released in 1972, from his debut album Glitter. " I Didn't Know I Loved You (Till I Saw You Rock and Roll)"

The Railway Rifle now has spread similar to a Varmint Rifle.Ĭredits: Yukichigai for the original mod.Novices who have come into contact with various weapons have the trouble of not knowing which route to take to strengthen the main line The downside is it isn't a rifle by default, the weapon spread is worse than some shotguns. It also has a high chance of a critical hit. The Railway Rifle can easily cripple limbs allowing you to spam the enemy with rails. Railway Rifle: It's not the most powerful weapon, but it has its niches. Their critical chance is still lower to account for FNV's multitude of options for increasing it. Lever-Action Rifle/Replica Repeater: They were known for being critical machines in Fallout 3. It also costs more than the Sawed Off Shotgun now. It now has less health and requires 50 Guns Skill instead of 25. I nerfed it to 35% more damage and 40% less spread than FNV's Sawed Off Shotgun. The original dealt 70% more damage and had 40% less spread than its Sawed Off counterpart. That's it.ĭouble-Barrel Shotgun: I used Fallout 3's Double-Barrel Shotgun as a reference. It does more damage than the Hunting Shotgun and has a bigger clip size, but it suffers from significantly more spread and 9 projectiles(Equal to Fallout 3).ĭeathclaw Gauntlet: It's balanced around Fist of Rawr. The Chinese Pistol can now make a great early game sidearm.Ĭombat Shotgun: It fires as fast as the Fallout 3 Combat Shotgun now instead of like a machine gun. The Chinese Pistol also doesn't get any weapon mods. With JSawyer and Grunt, the 9mm Pistol is capable of 22 damage as well. It now has 22 damage, same as the 10mm Pistol. The Chinese Assault Rifle deals a lot more damage than the Assault Rifle, but the Assault Rifle holds more ammo, has less spread and more item HP.Ĭhinese Pistol: The default damage of 14 makes it just as underwhelming as it's Fallout 3 counterpart. I took some creative liberties to make both of them have their own uses. This wasn't actually applied to the weapons however.Īssault Rifle Changes: In Fallout 3 the Chinese Assault Rifle is a complete replacement for the Assault Rifle. In the original mod, all Alloy Steel and Dragoon weapons had a weapon description of "Increased Durability". The value increase makes it close to the value of other Alloy Steel weapons. This gives it a reason to exist alongside a fully modified standard 10mm Pistol and the Weathered 10mm Pistol. The Alloy Steel 10mm Pistol has 300% more durability and value than it's standard counterpart. The Alloy Steel Assault Rifle and the Dragoon Rifle had their clip sizes swapped to be inline with the new assault rifle changes. They also retain their clip size changes with some tweaks. Īlloy Steel + Dragoon Weapons: Now they all have 50% more durability and value than their standard counterparts with some exceptions. It's about as strong as the original Alien Blaster.Īlien Blaster: 75 Damage + 50 Critical Hit Damage x 1.75 = 219 DPSĬaptain's Sidearm: 100 Damage x 1.75 = 175 DPS. The Captain's Sidearm was changed to be an Alien Blaster replacement when you run out of Alien Power Cells. So now only the Alien Blaster can run out of ammo. It would be pretty lame if you had 4 weapons that you don't have ammo for. I always wanted to make a mod for renewable Alien ammo and the Alien Power Modules are perfect for it. I thought it was cool that the original mod added in the Alien Power Modules from Mothership Zeta. It works well with Hollow Point rounds on low DT targets. 22 Revolver: JSawyer buffs the Silenced 22 Pistol from 9 > 12 damage. The Alien Atomizer uses 1 Alien Power Module, the Alien Disintergrator uses 2, and the Captain's Sidearm uses 3. The catch is that every Alien weapon now uses a different amount of ammo. Vigilant Recycler and 90 Science are required. Requires 2 Energy Cells for 1 Alien Power Module. Special Effect: 2 fire damage for 5 seconds. You can find it inside the Remnants Bunker. Added Firelance, the unique Alien Blaster from Fallout 3. I highly recommend installing JSawyer Ultimate Edition. This mod uses JSawyer's damage values for reference. I made this for myself, but I uploaded it in case others wanted it as well. I recently installed Fallout 3 Weapons Restoration and found some of the weapons underwhelming. Count Basie’s group was an exception, largely because Basie welcomed musicians versed in bebop, like tenor saxophonist Frank Foster and trumpeter Thad Jones.įoster’s “Shiny Stockings” and the Orchestra’s take on Vernon Duke’s standard “April in Paris” show how they grew more sonorous and resonant without sacrificing that crucial pulse. They also braided it with harmonic beauty influenced by classical music, a development that left most swing bands in the dust. When alto saxophonist Charlie Parkerand trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie came along, they cranked up danceable swing to whiplash tempos. Then, you start getting arrangers who were arranging harmonically different than these earlier recordings.” “It’s just that the arrangements, harmonically, are of that era – the bebop era. “In, when you get to the New Testament band, that pulse is still there,” Lawrence explains. “Man, you look funny up there… This is small garbage for you, Basie.”īasie took his advice and formed the New Testament Band, which was heavier and richer than the Old while reflecting the harmonic innovations of the bebop movement. “Get your goddamn big band back together,” Eckstine told Basie, according to Good Morning Blues. Gradually, member by member, the Count Basie Orchestra was born, and almost a century later, the group is still humming along as one of jazz’s most prestigious repertory orchestras.Ĭount Basie pulled the plug on the OId Testament band in 1949 as the swing era declined and flirted with eight-piece, seven-piece, and six-piece groups – until the singer and big-band leader Billy Eckstine told him to cut it out. Many of the members, like Lester “Prez” Young, drifted into Basie’s orbit around the time of Moten’s death in 1935. In 1928, he joined Walter Page’s Blue Devils, and the following year, he joined Bennie Moten’s band. Listen to the best Count Basie songs on Apple Music and Spotify.īasie turned his attention to the piano, absorbing the stride-piano style of Fats Waller, and eventually hit the road with vaudeville acts. “I could see that playing drums was not going to be my gig.” “Everybody knew he was the champ,” Basie wrote of the percussionist who would go on to play in Duke Ellington’s band. After watching Sonny Greer play, Basie gave up his dreams of drumming. To get closer to show business, he dropped out of middle school and performed menial tasks at a movie theater. “I always used to go down there and frustrate the hell out of myself dreaming about leaving with them,” Basie wrote in his 1986 autobiography Good Morning Blues. He also badly wanted to get out of Red Bank, and he contemplated joining the circus to do so. William James Basie was born in Red Bank, New Jersey, in 1904. When you leave a Basie concert, you’re supposed to feel better than you did when you first walked in there. “It makes you want to tap your foot and snap your fingers. “His music makes you want to dance,” says Scotty Barnhart, who has led the Count Basie Orchestra since 2013. The Count Basie Orchestra, simply, has the ineffable ability to make your day better. I was gone, and I’ve been gone ever since that night.”īy the mid-’70s, Miles would join the band himself, part of an ever-growing list of talented musicians that played bluesy, swinging, and hotter than hot. “It was something for a 16-year-old kid to sit right in front of the band and hear that. Sonny Payne was on drums,” the 76-year-old drummer recalls with a hint of awe. As a teenager, he first saw the Count Basie Orchestra perform songs at a jazz festival in Virginia Beach. When asked how to explain the pianist and bandleader Count Basie for the average listener, Butch Miles finds it difficult to be dispassionate. For example, early-set educational disadvantages not only represent the primary obstacle to universal schooling and the right to education for girls down the line they are also to blame for restricting access to higher education and even translate into limited opportunities for women in the labour market. The adverse psychological, sexual and reproductive health consequences of VAWG affect women at all stages of their life. To further clarify, the Declaration on the Elimination of Violence Against Women issued by the UN General Assembly in 1993, defines violence against women as “any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or psychological harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or in private life.” human trafficking (slavery, sexual exploitation).sexual violence and harassment (rape, forced sexual acts, unwanted sexual advances, child sexual abuse, forced marriage, street harassment, stalking, cyber- harassment).intimate partner violence (battering, psychological abuse, marital rape, femicide). In general terms, it manifests itself in physical, sexual and psychological forms, encompassing: Violence against women and girls (VAWG) is one of the most widespread, persistent and devastating human rights violations in our world today remains largely unreported due to the impunity, silence, stigma and shame surrounding it. Why we must eliminate violence against women So if you see orange lights, remember the meaning! Iconic buildings and landmarks will be 'oranged' to recall the need for a violence-free future. The campaign also includes the launch of a new report with updated data on gender violence, as well as a multitude of digital initiatives in which you can participate. This campaign, led by the UN Secretary-General and UN Women since 2008, aims to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls around the world, calling for global action to increase awareness, promote advocacy and create opportunities for discussion on challenges and solutions.Īmong its activities, there is a UN official event that will take place on November 24 (10.00-11.30am ET.) You can follow teh webinar online through the UN Women’s website by registering in advance. The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women will mark the launch of the UNiTE to End Violence against Women campaign (Nov 25- Dec 10) - an initiative of 16 days of activism concluding on the day that commemorates the International Human Rights Day (10 December). Orange is our color to represent a brighter future free of violence against women and girls. To raise awareness, this year's theme is " Orange the World: End Violence against Women Now!". With survivor-centred essential services across policing, justice, health, and social sectors, and sufficient financing for the women’s rights agenda, we can end gender-based violence. Stopping this violence starts with believing survivors, adopting comprehensive and inclusive approaches that tackle the root causes, transform harmful social norms, and empower women and girls. While pervasive, gender-based violence is not inevitable. Only 1 in 10 women said that victims would go to the police for help. A new report from UN Women, based on data from 13 countries since the pandemic, shows that 2 in 3 women reported that they or a woman they know experienced some form of violence and are more likely to face food insecurity. In times of crises, the numbers rise, as seen during the COVID-19 pandemic and recent humanitarian crises, conflicts and climate disasters. Nearly 1 in 3 women have been abused in their lifetime. Several public events are being coordinated and iconic buildings and landmarks will be 'oranged' to recall the need for a violence-free future.Ģ021 Theme: Orange the World: End Violence against Women Now! As in previous years, this year's International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women launches 16 days of activism to be concluded on the 10 th of December 2020 - the day that commemorates the International Human Rights Day. This first phase of development addressed a global mobility issue for the City area, which opened the station to the north and made it accessible to all travel modes. The trigger for the regeneration project was the Viotte station’s transformation into a 2-ha multi-modal hub. The Pôle Viotte neighbourhood is designed as a new dense and mixed vibrant sustainable neighbourhood where it will be possible to work, live, do daily shopping, move around, or travel. Since 2008, the city of Besançon has been supporting a global project to reclaim the urban brownfield site surrounding the Viotte railway. Figure 10.7 locates the brownfield within the city of Besançon.įull size image 1.2 Description of the Urban Brownfield Regeneration Project Figures 10.3, 10.4, 10.5, and 10.6 give an overview of the initial situation of the brownfield site. Figure 10.2 is an aerial view of the brownfield site before the start of the regeneration project. It benefits from a location that is both privileged-its proximity to the historical city centre-and strategic, due to the expanded transport offer of the Besaçon-Viotte railway station (TGV, regional train, tram, bus, etc.), which can help promote economic development. The urban brownfield is accessed mainly by Avenue de la Paix to the south and Rue Nicolas Bruand to the north. The Parc des Glacis, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, forms a green corridor towards the city centre. It is located at the intersection of the Charpais and Saint-Claude neighbourhoods, near the Battant neighbourhood and the glacis (paved wall) of Vauban ramparts, which was transformed into a public park in 2013. The brownfield site has a global hold of 11 hectares in the city, including the surface occupied by railways and various neglected spaces. Only a few jobs linked to the SNCF (the French National Railway Company) remained on site. The steep drop in level between the northern sector and the southern sector, as well as the lack of vitality of in situ activities, accentuated the barrier created by the railways. At the beginning of the twenty-first century, the Viotte site embodied a typical urban brownfield, breaking with its context. 10.3) in 2001 caused the loss of several jobs. More specifically, the closure of the old Sernam Hall (Fig. It added to the decline in rail operations throughout the site. The railway station was built in 1885 and then rebuilt in 1962 to make room for underground circulation systems, which later became difficult to access and illegible for users. Railway activities characterize the Viotte site. 1.1 Description of the Urban Brownfield Site Finally, we show the overall monitoring results using the graph display of SIPRIUS+ as well as an analysis of the monitoring tool’s potential to facilitate the integration of sustainability issues into the project dynamics of a neighbourhood in transition. Then, we present the detailed monitoring results of the context, project, and governance indicators illustrated by the evolution displays of SIPRIUS+. We start with a description of the urban brownfield site, followed by the regeneration project. Interactions with project stakeholders reveal that, while the use of such a tool would require a change in project management, the evolutions to adopt to include this practice appear not only feasible but realistic and desired. The operational monitoring tool is expected to contribute to decision-making in a multi-disciplinary manner, without giving ready-made solutions. Finally, we conclude that SIPRIUS+ has the potential to contribute to the integration of sustainability issues into the dynamics of neighbourhoods in transition. Through this analysis, we identify four actions to improve sustainability objectives. Then, we analyse the overall results, which allows us to assess the sustainability strategy of the regeneration project. Each monitoring result is illustrated by a graph showing the evolution of the performances. Then, we evaluate 52 indicators linked to the context, project, and governance. We start with a description of the brownfield site, followed by the regeneration project. We present an application of the operational monitoring tool SIPRIUS+ to an ongoing case study representative of urban brownfield regeneration projects: the Pôle Viotte neighbourhood, located in Besançon (France).
